What a Year

2001 - What a Year!

WHAT A YEAR 2001 was for us. Diane and I have been living in our house on wheels and traveling around the USA for almost 20 months and we continue to love every minute of it. We left Atlanta on February 17 to begin our journey to the West. We returned to the Atlanta area on October 1. During those eight months we:

visited 22 states, some for a few weeks, others for only a few nights
visited eight national parks
visited seven national monuments
drove through many national forests
were able to visit with our RV friends in Phoenix, AZ; Moscow, ID; Redmond, OR
met lots of new RVers who we now look forward to seeing again in future travels
saw two more baseball stadiums when we attended Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies baseball games
attended the Hofmeister campout in the Lost Dutchman State Park
attended two RV rallies (FMCA in Oregon and a Newmar rally in Iowa)
attended the Life on Wheels Conference in Moscow, ID and learned lots of stuff about RVs and the full-timing lifestyle
flew back to NY for Rich's 40th high school reunion

So what's in store for us in the future? Well, here's a rough look at what we plan to do in 2002:

in last year's "What a Year", I said that long range plans were to drive to Alaska in the summer of 2002. As is our wont as full-timers, we have changed our minds and plans and have pushed that trip off to summer of 2003 to coincide with the plans of some of our RV friends.
we will spend the winter in various locations in Florida and make our way out of the state by going up the east coast in March.
we will make a stop in Atlanta to visit kids and grandkids before heading north for the spring, summer, and fall.
our plans are to spend the summer visiting the Canadian Maritime provinces (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland).
on the way, we will stop in
- Myrtle Beach to use our time share for a week of golf and fun with my brother and his wife.
- the Hudson Valley to visit our son Curt, Diane's sister, and several friends in the Kingston, Newburgh, Poughkeepsie area.
- Maine to visit our friends Tom and Tish.
in the Fall, we will most likely head to Michigan and Indiana for annual maintenance and warranty work and then stop in Van Wert, OH for the Fall Escapade. Hopefully, we will hook up with John and Libby there as we won't cross paths with them in 2002 until that time.
then we'll head back to Atlanta to visit family and head to Florida for part of the winter.

I'm sure we will meet many new friends along the way. Here's hoping our path will cross with many of you as we continue our journey.
